I'm thrilled to hear that you've received your new furry friend! By welcoming this dog into your life, you're committing to a wonderful journey of companionship. Please take a moment to acknowledge the following responsibilities and guidelines:
**Adoption Commitment:**
I understand that, as the proud new pet parent, it's my responsibility to thoroughly read and adhere to the terms outlined in the adoption contract. I pledge to provide my pet with a loving and caring home, understanding that the transition might take time. Adjusting to a new environment can vary from a day to a few weeks, and I'm prepared to be patient.
**Rescue Understanding:**
I acknowledge that each rescue dog's background and experience are unique. Every pet's journey has shaped them differently, and I am prepared to offer the appropriate support and care they need to thrive.
**Adjustment Period:**
I'm aware that my dog's true personality might not be immediately evident as they settle into their new surroundings. I'm committed to understanding and nurturing my pet's growth during this period of adjustment.
**Refund Policy:**
I understand that once my dog is transported to me, the transport fee becomes non-refundable. If I choose to return the dog within the 12-hour grace period, my adoption fee will be refunded upon re-adoption. However, if the need arises for Second Chance Rescue to arrange transport for pick-up, the adoption fee will not be refundable.
**Pet Return Policy:**
In the event that my pet and I face challenges that prevent us from continuing our journey together, I pledge to return the pet to Second Chance Rescue. I understand that Second Chance Rescue dogs cannot be resold, ensuring their well-being and future happiness.
**Updates and Support:**
I'm excited to share this journey with Second Chance Rescue! I'm eager to provide updates and photos, as well as seek guidance and support whenever needed. I'm grateful for the opportunity to become a part of the Second Chance Rescue family.

**Understanding the Nature of Rescue Dogs:**
1. **Imperfections and Goals:**
The Rescue acknowledges that rescue dogs may come with certain imperfections, including behavioral or health-related challenges. Our primary goal is to ensure the well-being of our adopted pets. We strive to provide you with accurate information about the dog's temperament and health based on assessments by our veterinarians.
2. **Vet Assessments and Goals:**
The Rescue works closely with veterinary professionals to assess the dogs' health and behavior. We endeavor to address any medical or behavioral concerns identified during these assessments. However, please understand that rescue dogs may require ongoing care, training, and patience as they transition to their new homes.
**Breed Information and Guarantees:**
3. **Breed Information:**
While we aim to provide accurate breed information, we cannot guarantee the breed of the dog based solely on appearance or previous owner claims. Many rescue dogs have unknown lineage, and breed identification is an estimation.
**Health and Parasite Treatment:**
4. **Health Check and Treatment:**
The dog will receive a health check by our veterinarians, and any known issues will be treated or cleared before adoption. However, please be aware that rescue dogs may still experience health challenges or issues that arise post-adoption.
5. **Parasite Treatment:**
The dog will be treated for parasites, including ear mites and other external parasites. The adopter agrees to follow our recommendation to retreat for parasites within two weeks post-adoption, as a preventive measure.
**Adopter's Responsibilities:**

The adopter agrees to provide necessary healthcare, including regular veterinary visits, vaccinations, and preventive treatments, to ensure the ongoing health of the dog.
